Born and raised in Nepal, I'm interested in research and writing about the South Asian diaspora, My collection of stories, <em>Leech and Other Stories</em>, was published in Asia by Penguin Random House and in the U.S. as <em>Diversity Quota</em> by University of Wisconsin Press (May/October 2024). The stories examine the lives of ordinary people struggling to belong in new worlds. In Kathmandu, they're caught in the battle between tradition and progress. In the U.S., their cultural dislocation is emblematic of larger immigration issues. Tracing the lives of people in two continents, the collection asks the reader to imagine the ways in which we suffer and find hopw through displacement. My essays and stories have appeared in <em>The New York Times</em>, <em>Huff Post</em>, <em>Story Quarterly</em>, among other publications. <br/><br/>In addition to serving as faculty advisor for <a href="/student-life/ellipsis-literature-and-art/index.html"><em>ellipsis</em></a>, I also direct the <a href="/student-life/events-and-performances/poetry-series.html">Poetry Series</a> where we invite visiting authors for reading and conversations.</about-me><interests>Creative Writing, U.S. Minority and Postcolonial Literature</interests><social-media/><website/><image><img src="/_resources/images/default-source/directory-profile-images/adiga-ranjan.jpg" alt="Ranjan Adiga"/></image><areas-of-expertise/><cv/><publications/><awards/><student-success/><department-filter/><DEPARTMENT_FILTERS/></item>
