Arriving at Westminster in 2006 returned me to the liberal arts environment I enjoyed at Oberlin College, where I studied English and vocal performance. I received my B.A. there in 1995, then went on to a much bigger place, the University of Texas at Austin. At UT I earned a PhD in English, specializing in the history of the language and linguistics, and discovered the wonderful world of writing centers. I helped administer UT's Undergraduate Writing Center 2001-2005 while teaching at St. Edward's University and in UT's Science, Technology, and Society program. I then taught for a year as a visiting professor at Southwesern University in Georgetown, Texas, before coming to Westminster.

The variety of courses I teach is wide, but all of them have in common a focus on language and media in a social context, from academic writing and writing pedagogy to Honors humanities and arts courses to English language history and game studies, . Students in my courses engage with thought-provoking, at times challenging, literary and theoretical works while interpreting, creating, and revising a wide range of texts. I have sung professionally with a variety of choirs and early music ensembles, co-founded Utopia Early Music, and sang with Conspirare on the CD Threshold of Night, nominated for two Grammy awards.
