SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster University is excited to announce the grand opening of the L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art, 11,000-square foot facility dedicated to fostering comprehensive wellness for students and the broader community. A grand opening ceremony and reception will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center, located on the southeast corner of Westminster's campus, next to the Dolores Doré Eccles Ceramics Center.
The L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center is a cornerstone of Westminster University's commitment to prioritizing person-centered wellness. This innovative facility brings together a network of student support services, including Student Health Services, the mental health Counseling Center, Interfaith and Spirituality, and the Center for Financial Wellness.
In addition to these essential services, the center features a teaching and demonstration kitchen designed to provide nutrition education and culinary instruction, enhancing students' knowledge of healthy eating habits. The facility, which is net-zero and entirely solar powered, also boasts an inner courtyard, offering a serene space for relaxation, meditation, and other mindfulness activities.
“We are thrilled to open the doors of the L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center,” said Westminster University president Beth Dobkin. “This facility represents our unwavering commitment to the holistic well-being of our students, addressing not just their physical health but also their emotional, intellectual, financial, social, and spiritual needs.”
Erin Gibson, Counseling Center director, says this center will have a big impact in the life of each student who takes advantage of the facility.
“When people feel cared for, have their basic needs met, engage in joyful activities, and feel connected to others, they thrive. They are well,” said Gibson. “Dedicating a space for wellness demonstrates Westminster’s commitment to caring for their students beyond their academic pursuits and recognizing the need to support them wholistically.”
The grand opening will feature remarks from university officials, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the new facility, and opportunities to engage with the various services and programs available at the center.
