International Admissions

You Are Welcome Here

International students are an integral part of the diverse and vibrant student body at Westminster University. Westminster has international students from all over the world who participate in athletics, music, honors, community service, extracurricular clubs, and many other activities on campus.

Who is an International Student?

An international student is:

  • Not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Students intending to stay in the United States temporarily in non-immigrant status
  • Students seeking to enter the United States on a temporary visa (most commonly an F-1 visa)

Life at Westminster

Your experience at Westminster consists of much more than just going to class and studying. Personal growth and exploring your interests are a fundamental part of student life. Westminster has more than 40 campus clubs and organizations, as well as multiple campus centers and offices you can get involved with. Odds are, if you’re interested in or passionate about something, someone else probably is too.

If you are interested in working part time, international students on F-1 visa can work up to 20 hours a week on campus while taking a full-time course load. Almost all areas of campus—including admissions, financial aid, campus dining, etc.—hire student employees. On-campus jobs are posted through the Career Center.

Westminster Enrolls Nearly 75 International Students Each Year

International students from over 30 different countries join Westminster and are supported by International Student and Scholar Services.

How to Apply to Westminster University

Take the first step toward your academic journey at Westminster University. Applying is free for undergraduate students. Applying is free for most graduate programs, and may be waived for eligible students applying to the MSCMHC, DNP-NA, and MSN-FNP programs. Applying doesn’t mean you must enroll at Westminster, and it doesn’t guarantee admittance to the university.

Submit Your Application

2

Submit Your Transcripts

Undergraduate first-year applicants must submit a high school transcript. Transfer applicants must submit university transcript(s) for all institutions attended:
  • From U.S. schools: Order an official electronic transcript to be sent to the Office of Admissions at Westminster University.
  • From schools outside of the U.S.: Upload your university transcript to the application portal and order a course-by-course transcript evaluation completed by a NACES-approved organization, for example, Spantran. Students who attend English-speaking universities or colleges in Canada do not need to complete a NACES evaluation.

3

Proof of English Language Proficiency

All applicants, regardless of citizenship status, must demonstrate proficiency in English to be admitted to Westminster University. To fulfill this requirement, you must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Provide transcripts showing attendance for a minimum of three years at a U.S.-accredited high school in a curriculum with passing grades.
  • Provide transcripts showing attendance for a minimum of three years in English education at an American International School, Cambridge affiliated school, or International Baccalaureate (IB) affiliated school with passing grades.
  • Provide transcripts showing a minimum of 15 transferable college level credits of general education or major requirements with a minimum grade of C- from a U.S. accredited college or university. Credits from ESL and orientation style courses will not be accepted.
  • Meet score requirements for one of the following English proficiency tests:

Complete a Financial Responsibility Questionnaire

Unfortunately, Westminster’s scholarships and financial aid will not cover 100% of the cost of attendance. When you apply for the F-1 student visa, you will be required to submit a checking or savings bank statement that shows sufficient funding. The Financial Responsibility Questionnaire confirms that you understand the financial responsibility associated with your program.

Westminster accepts students from its partner institutions on an exchange basis. Tuition is waived for exchange students, but you’re responsible for housing and meal expenses, and international health insurance. Exchange students will be issued a DS-2019 form, which enables the student to apply for a J-1 visa.

Exchange students from the following partner institutions may apply using the exchange student application:

  • htw saar, Germany
  • University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland
  • Universidad Autonoma de Bucaramanga, Colombia

Westminster is also a member of International Student Exchange Program (ISEP). International students interested in attending Westminster through ISEP should contact the ISEP coordinator on their home campus.
