Dear Westminster staff, faculty and students,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Glenn Smith as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. Dr. Smith has been working in an interim capacity for the last 5 months and has already demonstrated considerable expertise and positive impact in his role; staff, students, and faculty with whom I've consulted express gratitude for his work on campus thus far and are supportive of this appointment in lieu of conducting a national search at this time.
Since 2017 and until arriving at Westminster, Smith held the positions of provost and vice president for student engagement and innovation at the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM). Prior to his appointment at NUNM, Dr. Smith spent 25 years at Concordia University in Portland, where he served in the roles of executive vice provost/vice president for student affairs. Over the course of his career, Dr. Smith has advocated for students, built partnerships and community across campus, and collaborated in a respectful and inclusive manner. Smith is an accomplished teacher as well as administrator, having taught courses in adult developmental psychology, human growth and development, and adolescent psychology. His scholarship has focused on student identity development, and he has received numerous awards for his work in student life. Smith holds an Ed.D in Educational Leadership from Portland State University, and both an MA and BA from Azusa Pacific University.
We were fortunate to have Dr. Smith join us in an interim capacity last fall, and I’m even more grateful that he will stay with us, offering the college considerable, relevant professional experience and stability in student affairs. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Smith on his appointment.
Regards,
Beth
