About

A nationally recognized expert in student conduct administration with topical expertise in free speech and expression, academic integrity, sex and gender-based violence, and civil rights investigations, Alexis Piñero-Benson serves as Assistant Dean of Students and Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Westminster University, following five years as Assistant Dean of Community Standards, Policy and Compliance at the University of New Hampshire.

At Westminster, Alexis is the University’s Chief Student Conduct Officer, with responsibility for the overall administration of the student conduct system and conflict resolution programs. With the support of a team of directors, Alexis also provides strategic leadership and direction for Residence Life and Housing, Student Care, Basic Needs, and co-chairs the Behavioral Intervention Team.

Previously, Alexis served as Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct at SUNY Oswego and as Assistant Director of Community Standards and Equity and Title IX Investigator at Berklee College of Music. His career in higher education and student affairs also includes roles at Mitchell College and Barry University, as well as appointments with the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Brevard Music Center and Festival, and Tanglewood Music Center.

Alexis has been recognized nationally by the Association for Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) for his contributions to the profession. In 2025, he received the Dixon–McFadden Award for demonstrated leadership and trailblazing service in the field and the Individual Award of Excellence in 2021, a peer-nominated distinction recognizing significant contributions to campus and community development, service to the profession, and a sustained commitment to education and mentoring.

A native of New York and a first-generation college graduate, Alexis earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in voice performance and a minor in collaborative piano from Shenandoah Conservatory. He also served for two summer seasons on the faculty of the Gehring Academy and is a lifetime member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity (ΦΜΑ). Alexis is a 2018 alumnus of the Susan Vogt Leadership Fellows Program and has completed advanced professional certifications and training through ATIXA, NABITA, the SUNY Student Conduct Institute, Restorative Community Practices of Vermont, and Management of Aggressive Behavior International.
