Visiting the Purple Basket

When you enter the Purple Basket, you will be greeted by a student office assistant. After you collect the items you need, check out with the office assistant with your student ID. We are here to help!

Why We Ask for Student IDs

  • to track inventory
  • to understand peak usage items
  • to collect aggregated data measuring food insecurity levels on campus
  • to secure grants

Although we sometimes have hygiene items stocked, we focus on providing shelf-stable, nutrient-dense food for short-term disruptions. You are welcome to fill out a request form. While every submission will be reviewed, requests are not guaranteed.

Local Resources

There are several food resource centers available throughout Salt Lake County for those with longer term needs. Inventory at the centers changes daily, so it's recommended you call before visiting to confirm what's available. Please note that most food resource centers will require identification.

For students who have longer-term needs, contact Chanté Jiménez (cjimenez@westminsteru.edu) to help identify additional community resources.
