About CPR/AED/First Aid Courses

The Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation Department offers a variety of American Red Cross CPR and First Aid courses to best meet your needs, whether it be for employment requirements, personal knowledge, or to fulfill certain degree requirements/prerequisites. In addition to basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Adults, Children, and Infants, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training for Adults and Children, are offered.

Upcoming Class Schedule

All full classes are now blended learning courses, which means you must complete 3.5–4 hours of online training before the in-class session. Once you register for the class, you will receive an email with instructions on how to access the online material. You can choose the online content for Adult Only CPR/AED/First Aid or Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid.

CPR and First Aid Course Descriptions

All American Red Cross courses are designed to help participants identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in their environment, recognize emergencies, and make appropriate decisions for first aid care.

All American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid courses completion certificates are valid for 2 years. Westminster currently offers the following courses:

  • Adult CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid

Requirements for successful course completion and certification:

  • Completing the online training before the class date.
  • Attending and participating in all activities, skill sessions, and skill scenarios.
  • Correctly demonstrating all required skills.

Review and Challenge Courses


Review Courses

The purpose of a review course is to provide individuals with the opportunity to review the course content within a formal class setting. The participants will view the video segments and have the opportunity to practice and perform the skills for evaluation and complete the written exams for the courses being reviewed. To be eligible to participate in a review course the participant must possess a current American Red Cross certificate. Non-certificate holders may not participate in the review course option.

Challenge Courses

The purpose of a challenge course is to provide individuals with the opportunity to demonstrate their skill and knowledge competency outside of the formal class setting. The participant has sole responsibility in preparing for the knowledge and skills tests. Anyone is eligible to participate in the challenge. Individuals who do not hold a current American Red Cross certificate (or equivalent) may participate in the challenge option one time only. Individuals who possess a current American Red Cross certificate(s) (or equivalent) may challenge as often as they like, as long as the certificate(s) remain current. Training on Demand

In addition to the CPR and first aid courses already listed, the Fitness, Wellness, and Recreation Department may provide CPR and First Aid training to departments, groups, and organizations on campus.
