Westminster Employees Foster Culture of Philanthropy

A culture of philanthropy is catching hold at Westminster. From increased employee gifts to the Student Hardship Fund to holding lunchtime fun events and fundraisers, employees all over the college are creatively embracing the philosophy of giving back. Dr. Richard Badenhausen, Kim T. Adamson Chair and director of the Honors program, challenged his graduating Honors students to make a gift to the college, matching 100 percent giving with his own contribution. They did it! Irene Lokcik, director of student account services, hosted a Chicago Dog lunch on the opening day of baseball season with the proceeds going to the Student Hardship Fund. On the heels of this successful event, Director of Budget, Candice Greenwald, with Legal Counsel, Melissa Flores, whipped up delicious Mexican fare for Cinco de Mayo, again with funds raised targeted to support the Student Hardship Fund.

The newest tradition in annual giving at Westminster is the Employee Giving Recognition BBQ. This popular event features live music and recognition of the members of the Employee Giving Committee and those Westminster faculty and staff like Richard, Irene, Candice, and Melissa, as well as 230 other faculty and staff who are building a culture of philanthropy at Westminster.

“In the world of employee giving, the question should never be “How much did you give?” but “Why does your gift matter?” said Dana Tumpowsky, who oversees employee giving at the college. “Gifts from faculty and staff do matter—to Westminster students and their futures.”
