About
Dr. Sabina Scott (Sabyrkulova) is a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health
Counseling program at Westminster University. She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health
Counselor in Utah and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Montana with clinical
experience in community mental health.
Her clinical experience includes providing psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment, treatment
planning, and crisis intervention for individuals, couples, children, and families.
She has worked with a wide range of clinical concerns, including trauma-related disorders,
depression, anxiety, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and substance use.
Originally from Kyrgyzstan, Dr. Scott brings an international perspective to her work
and is fluent in Russian. She is committed to increasing awareness of counseling and
mental health practices globally and has contributed to international initiatives
through collaborations with organizations such as NBCC Foundation and its global capacity-building
efforts.
Dr. Scott is passionate about teaching, supervision, and training counselors-in-training.
Her work emphasizes the development of clinical competence, ethical decision-making,
and multicultural responsiveness. In her faculty role, she teaches courses such as
Counseling Ethics, DSM and Psychopathology, Multicultural Counseling, Individual Counseling,
Practicum, and Internship, and provides supervision and mentorship to graduate students
while supporting their professional development and readiness for clinical practice.
Interests
Dr. Scott’s professional interests focus on preparing counselors for the realities
of clinical work, including building strong foundational skills, developing ethical
awareness, and navigating complex client presentations. She is particularly interested
in multicultural counseling, supporting diverse populations, and integrating culturally
responsive practices into both clinical work and counselor training.
Outside of her professional role, Dr. Scott enjoys baking, trying new recipes, and
exploring diverse cuisines. She values travel and seeks out opportunities to experience
different cultures and places. With an appreciation for languages and cross-cultural
connection, she is currently learning Spanish.
