SALT LAKE CITY - On Friday, April 26, Westminster University will host the annual Student Showcase event, featuring students ready to present their best work from the past year. This year’s Student Showcase has unprecedented inclusion of all academic programs and project types. Presentations show a diverse range of topics on various cultures, current social issues, and different identities.
Ann Day, the academic affairs program coordinator organizing the event, says there are over 150 presentations this year.
“Westminster students have spent the last year connecting and working with different communities to learn about their cultures, histories, and where they are today. Students have brought this information back to campus and helped make Westminster more diverse and inclusive for our surrounding communities,” said Day.
The Westminster Student Showcase gives students the opportunity to share their research and experiences with the campus community and potential employers. The showcase recognizes the academic achievements of students engaging in high-level research projects, creative activities, dance, music, and theater performances, photography, art, community service, and unique internships with the guidance of program faculty. Students from all academic programs are expected to participate.
“Many students have partnered with other community organizations in their research. This is impactful because not only do these students get to learn a lot about their field of study and earn credit, but they are also giving back and helping others, which is a learning experience in itself,” said Day.
The day-long event will kick off with lunch followed by a series of panel discussions addressing a variety of topics, including the intersections of economics, science, and technology, environmental awareness, exploring identity in society, public health perspectives, and more.
