Georgie Corkery, Great Salt Lake Institute coordinator, recently spoke to Utah News Dispatch and KSL about declining salinity levels in Great Salt Lake. As salinity levels drop, it the effects the brine shrimp and brine fly populations that are an important food source to the nearly 10 million migratory birds that visit the lake each year. Thanks to a $50,000 grant from Northrop Grumman, Westminster's Great Salt Lake Institute will be able to continue important research on brine fly populations.

“This funding will allow us to test our hypothesis that brine fly populations will be reduced at high salinity and may rebound when the lake level rises and salinity lowers."
