Westminster University Director of Athletics Shay Wyatt has announced that he will step down on March 30, 2025, and will assist the athletic department with special projects through June 30, 2025.

Wyatt has led Westminster Athletics since September 2006. At the time, the athletics department had five teams and 100 student-athletes. Under Wyatt’s leadership, Westminster transitioned from the NAIA to NCAA Division II and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). During his tenure, the program grew to 19 sports teams, supporting 265 student-athletes and more than 50 coaches and staff.

Westminster Athletics has achieved notable success, earning 26 conference championships and 57 NCAA Division II or NAIA postseason appearances.

Under Wyatt’s leadership, student-athletes earned numerous accolades, including 50 RMAC Brechler Awards, 256 scholar-athlete honors, 614 Academic All-Conference selections, 70 All-American recognitions, one National Player of the Year award, 35 Conference Player of the Year titles, and 252 All- Conference selections. Westminster’s head coaches were also recognized 25 times as Coach of the Year. Additionally, student-athletes maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher for the past 18 semesters.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have led Westminster Athletics. I have worked alongside many great people, and together, we have achieved much. Our efforts have positively impacted our student- athletes, which has been very rewarding. I take great pride in the transformation and accomplishments of the athletics department. These achievements were made possible by our student athletes, coaches, and staff – both past and present – whose hard work and dedication have been instrumental to our success,” Wyatt remarked. “I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Westminster’s administration, supporters, and conference partners for their support in helping position the department for continued growth and success. I have built valuable relationships and created memories I will cherish. This journey would not have been possible without the support and sacrifices of my family, for which I am forever grateful. Now, I am excited and ready to pursue new challenges and opportunities.”

With three decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration, Wyatt significantly increased revenue, budgets, and staffing during his tenure. He led an athletics rebranding, oversaw numerous facility upgrades, and established the Westminster Athletics Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. His contributions also included numerous strategic and operational improvements.

President Beth Dobkin expressed gratitude for Wyatt’s leadership, stating, “Shay has served Westminster well for many years. His leadership and efforts have expanded, elevated, and stewarded our athletics program, he has been a constant, stable, and valued presence in our community. I am deeply appreciative of his contributions to Westminster Athletics.”

A national search for the university's next director of intercollegiate athletics will begin immediately, and an interim athletic director will be appointed.
