Congratulations to Westminster alum Max Lowe on releasing a documentary very close to his heart. Max Lowe directed Torn, a National Geographic documentary streaming now on Disney+. The film follows Max in his quest to understand his legendary late father, Alex Lowe.
Alex Lowe was tragically lost in a deadly avalanche in 1999 in Tibet. Alex’s best friend and climbing partner, renowned mountaineer Conrad Anker survived the avalanche and went on to marry Alex’s widow. Max Lowe turns the camera on his family for Torn and intimately follows their journey to recover Alex’s body 17 years after his death.
Max graduated from Westminster in 2011 with a degree in business. He then received the National Geographic Young Explorers Grant in 2012 to travel to the Khumbu region of Nepal. He has forged a career as a director and photographer traveling the world in search of narratives unheard.
“My mom is an artist, my dad (Conrad Anker) is a professional climber, and my father (Alex Lowe) was a professional climber before he passed away. So, finding something that you love and making that your life is ingrained in me,” said Max.
