SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster University began the 2024-2025 academic year on Monday, August 19, with the annual convocation ceremony in Richer Commons. This time-honored tradition marks the beginning of the academic journey for first-year students and serves as an opportunity for faculty and administrators to formally welcome the class of 2028 into the Westminster community.

First-year students began moving into their residences on Sunday, August 18, and Westminster is excited to welcome them to campus.

“The start of the academic year is always a time of great anticipation and energy,” said President Beth Dobkin. “We are thrilled to welcome the class of 2028 to Westminster University and are excited by the talents, experiences, passions, and diversity that they bring to our community. Our faculty and staff are ready to guide these students on their educational pathways and support their academic discovery, personal wellness, and development of career confidence.”

In addition to the convocation ceremony, this year's start of classes is marked by the grand opening of the L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center. Set to open in August, this state-of-the-art 11,000-square-foot facility will house a network of student support offices, including Student Health Services, the Counseling Center, Interfaith and Spirituality services, and the Center for Financial Wellness. The center also features a teaching and demonstration kitchen, as well as an inner courtyard designed for relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness activities.

"We are incredibly proud to open the L.S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center, a space dedicated to fostering the well-being of our students in every aspect of their lives," said President Dobkin. "This facility represents our commitment to providing holistic support and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to thrive."

Westminster University is also excited to announce the launch of several new programs this fall, including the debate program, which aims to enhance students' critical thinking and public speaking skills. In addition, students will now be able to participate in the mountain sports program, offering opportunities for students to engage in freeskiing and snowboarding in Utah's breathtaking mountain ranges.

"We continue to innovate and expand our offerings to bring distinctive value to the student experience," added President Dobkin. "These new programs and facilities reflect our commitment to fostering a vibrant, active, and intellectually stimulating campus environment."

Classes began on Wednesday, August 21, as the university community begins another successful academic year.
