Dear Westminster Community,

After a long and exemplary career in higher education, Dr. Glenn Smith, Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics, will be retiring effective June 30, 2024.

Dr. Smith (Glenn) arrived at Westminster in November of 2020 from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where he was Provost/Vice President for Innovation. Prior to his appointment there, Glenn spent 25 years at Concordia University in Portland, where he served as Vice President for Student Affairs/Executive Vice Provost at Concordia University in Portland, among many other roles.

Westminster University has benefited considerably from Glenn’s work since his arrival. During his time at Westminster, Glenn oversaw the care and support of students during the pandemic, sustained Griffin Athletics through coaching transitions and rebuilding of student rosters, directed significant improvements in auxiliary enterprises of dining and housing, and coordinated major capital projects, including renovations to improve the new climbing wall in HWAC, ADA access and the building of the L. S. Skaggs Integrated Wellness Center.

Beginning July 1 and into the coming academic year, Glenn will continue on a limited schedule in support of the transition to a new Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics and in supervision of major capital projects as a Special Assistant to the President. We will launch an expedited search for a Vice President of Student Affairs and Athletics beginning March 12, with application review beginning April 12 and intended completion no later than July 1. Additional details about search committee composition and timing of the search will be available soon.

Please join me in thanking Glenn and wishing him the best through this transition and beyond.

Regards,
Beth
