Dear Colleagues,

Westminster College currently holds a long-term lease for the facility we call The Draw. This facility has been useful in housing limited numbers of Westminster College students and, most recently, has provided isolation and quarantine spaces for students impacted by COVID-19. Effective July 1, 2022, Westminster College will enter a sub-lease agreement with the University of Utah for use of The Draw. This initial, 5-year lease agreement will bring more Westminster College students to the core of campus and create even greater opportunities for vibrant programming in our residential spaces and for our students. This sub-lease will also allow staff in areas such as campus security, facilities, information services, and student affairs to focus on life in our core campus setting and provide our residential students with an even more robust and supportive student experience.

At the same time, the University of Utah will be able to address some of their students’ needs by using The Draw as residential housing. Westminster College students living in The Draw this past year were notified that after Spring 2022 The Draw would not be available, though other on-campus housing options exist for them. While this sub-lease is in place, The Draw will be wholly operated and maintained by the University of Utah. Westminster College will not have access to or utilization of the event and office spaces or of the parking decks.
