About
Michelle Armstrong received her early ballet training with Susan Wright and later
studied with Willam Christensen. She danced a professional career with Ballet West,
Utah Opera and New York City Ballet/Sun Valley, ID. Michelle has been an instructor
for over 30 years and is currently the Artistic Director of Ballet Center Utah, Inc.
where she is the principal choreographer, producing and directing many one-act ballets.
Armstrong has a BFA in ballet-teaching emphasis from the University of Utah, and is
certified in the National Teaching Curriculum with ABT. In 2016, she traveled to St.
Petersburg, Russia to study ballet pedagogy under Mr. Oleg Vinogradov, Artistic Director
Emeritus of Kirov/Mariinsky Ballet Theater-St. Petersburg and his highly qualified
faculty of Russian ballet masters.
Michelle presently continues her work with Mr. Vinogradov, teaching and setting choreography
for his International Youth Ballet Festival “Vivat Ballet!” as his rehearsal assistant,
ballet instructor, choreographer and répétiteur. In August 2018, she organized the
5th International Youth Ballet Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah, hosting the festival
at Ballet Center Utah, Inc. July 2019, she brought the 7th International Youth Ballet
Festival once again to Utah. Recently, Armstrong worked abroad teaching daily lessons
and setting her choreography in both St. Petersburg, Russia and Incheon, South Korea.
Michelle Armstrong also serves as the ballet instructor at the Salt Lake School for
the Performing Arts in Salt Lake City, UT and as an adjunct professor of ballet at
Westminster University for their BFA program.
