About
Dr. Kellie E. Gerbers joined the Westminster faculty in August 2017. Prior to that, she spent approximately 10 years in collegiate outdoor recreation managing outdoor programs at the University of Georgia and Florida State University. In her time as a practitioner, Kellie supervised several hundred student employees and logged over 1,000 hours on challenge courses and in outdoor technical skill trainings. Kellie's research Kellie’s research interests include student leadership development in outdoor education as well as understanding how outdoor academic programs fit in the current landscape of higher education. In 2016, she received the Jim Rennie Leadership Award from the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) for her contributions to students pursuing careers in the outdoor field. She served on the AORE Board of Directors from 2016-2020 and served as the Chair of the Board in her last year of service. She also received the 2009-2010 Sherrill W. Ragans Leadership and Service Award from the FSU Hardee Center and Higher Education Program. She received her PhD in higher education from Florida State University in 2017. She also has a master's degree in higher education (M.S., 2010) from FSU and bachelor's degrees in history (B.A. 2008) and Spanish (B.A., 2008) from the University of Georgia.
