About

Elizabeth Hannais a dual board-certified nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC and AGACNP-BC) with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Utah and an MSc from the London School of Economics. She serves as Assistant Professor at Westminster University's School of Nursing and Health Sciences, teaching across multiple graduate programs.

Elizabeth maintains active clinical practices in both bariatric medicine at Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians and psychiatric mental health at Mountain Mental Health. She previously served as a nurse at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System for five years, receiving a VA STAR Award for outstanding performance, before becoming a nurse practitioner with over six years of advanced practice experience.

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Elizabeth is committed to civic engagement and community advocacy. She serves on the Civilian Advisory Council for the Salt Lake City Police Department and recently joined the effort to preserve the Community Writing Center. Her passion the for creative writing, narrative medicine, and editing for professional peer-reviewed journals informs her broader community involvement. She has published essays, op-eds, and letters to the editor on healthcare policy and social justice issues.

Elizabeth spent her early adult life in England, where she worked in policy and education; remaining healthcare-adjacent while pursuing what has always been her primary calling: activism. She hosts the "Imposter Syndrome" podcast for nurse practitioners.

Interests

Beyond her work in nursing and academia, Elizabeth Hanna enjoys creative writing, exploring themes of human experience, resilience, and self-discovery. She is passionate about the power of narrative medicine and creative writing as a tool for reducing burnout and fostering professional fulfillment.

She also hosts the Imposter Syndrome Podcast, where she has candid conversations with other nurse practitioners about the realities of the profession, offering insights to those navigating their careers.

A certified yoga and Pilates instructor, Elizabeth values movement and mindfulness as essential to well-being. At home, she shares her space with a lively crew of rescue pit bulls, a mini-Aussie, a Burmese cat, and a flock of backyard ducks.
