Types of Meal Plan Funds
Each meal plan provides a set amount of Flex Dollars and Meal Swipes. You may use your Meal Swipes and Flex Dollars to purchase food for others. The cardholder must be present at the time of purchase.
Flex Dollars
Use Flex Dollars for weekday à la carte breakfast and lunch, grab-and-go items, snacks, and drinks from Campus Dining and Winged Scholar coffee in Shaw. You can use Flex Dollars to pay a door price for nightly dinner and weekend brunch as well.
Each meal plan includes a set amount of Flex Dollars for each semester (Fall and Spring). Flex Dollars work like a debit card. Your Flex Dollars balance is printed on the bottom of each purchase receipt.
Flex Dollars can only be used during the academic semester the meal plan was purchased for. Unused Flex Dollars for enrolled students roll over from Fall Semester to Spring Semester and from Spring Semester through the first 4 weeks of Summer Semester. Flex Dollars do not carry over from one academic year to the next. All Flex Dollars for the 2024–25 academic year must be used by June 14, 2025.
Meal Swipes
Use Meal Swipes for "pre fixe" menu items at breakfast and lunch, and for all-you-care-to-eat nightly dinner and weekend brunch. For dinner and weekend brunch, just swipe your ID card once and enjoy trying a variety of foods and as little or as much food as you like.
Each meal plan has a set number of Meal Swipes per week (Sunday–Saturday). Meal Swipes refresh each week and do not roll over from week to week.
Meeting Your Needs
You can change your meal plan until the Drop/Add Date of each academic semester. Residential students change their meal plans through Residence Life using the eRezLife portal. Commuter students change their meal plans directly with Student Account Services.
Meal plan accommodations for medical reasons may be requested through Student Disability Services. Meal plan accommodations for religious or cultural reasons may be requested through the Dean of Students Office.
The general manager for Campus Dining and the executive chef can assist you with managing dietary restrictions within your meal plan. They can meet with you to discuss your specific needs and provide tools to help you navigate your dining options. A registered dietitian is also available if you would like a more in-depth consultation.
If you have additional questions, contact Campus Dining General Manager Nikki Hardinger. You can find Nikki in the dining area of Shaw Student Center or email nhardinger1@westminsteru.edu.
