Dear Campus Community,

As we approach the summer months, we extend our sincere appreciation for your dedication and contributions throughout the year.

In recognition of the typically reduced campus activity during the summer, we are implementing adjusted office hours. Beginning the week of May 19 and continuing through July 25, campus offices will close at 3:00 p.m. on Fridays. Regular office hours will resume beginning Monday, July 28.

We understand that work schedules vary across our community, and some employees may already have hours that do not include Friday afternoons. While this adjustment may not affect all staff members directly, it reflects our broader commitment to acknowledging and valuing the efforts of our entire team.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission and community.

Regards,
Debra

Summer Office Hours FAQ

Grant-funded positions should record non-worked hours just like all other employees. Charging these non-worked hours to the GL account assigned to the position is accurate and appropriate. These positions are paid consistently with non-grant-funded positions and should not be treated differently during the closure.

No. Student employees should not be paid for the time they do not work. Office closures on Fridays do not qualify as paid time off for student workers.

Yes. Supervisors are encouraged to plan ahead:

  • If operationally feasible, student work hours should be redistributed throughout the week.
  • Alternatively, if the student has meaningful work and supervision is available, they may continue to work on Fridays during the closure period.
  • Many supervisors intend for students to work up to 40 hours per week and are encouraged to coordinate accordingly.

If an employee is on vacation or using sick leave on a summer Friday closure, they should report six (6) hours of vacation or sick leave (as appropriate) and two (2) hours as "College Closure." This applies only to designated summer Friday closures.
