Hello Westminster Community!
We wanted to reach out about an upcoming shift related to the passwords associated with your Westminster credentials. Effective April 1st, all Westminster passwords will be required to match the requirements set in the Westminster College Password Policy. As a quick synopsis, passwords should be composed with:
- Greater than seven characters
- Contain three of the following:
- Uppercase letters (ABCDE...)
- Lowercase letters (abcde...)
- Base 10 digits (0-9)
- Special characters (!@#$%...)
- Unicode character from Asian languages
- Not a repeat of an old password
- Not a dictionary word
- Not a commonly used password
- Unique to all accounts
Why are we making this change?
A recent audit indicated the College should logically enforce password parameters
to match Westminster’s written password policy. We are making this change to match
the auditor’s recommendations and to further strengthen the defensive posture of our
information security program.
Do I need to change my password?
Maybe. If your current password already aligns with the password policy, you don’t
need to make any changes. If your password does not currently align with the password
policy, you will need to change your password with one that is compliant prior to
April 1st or you will be prevented from signing into Westminster technology resources.
