About
Experienced Professor Of Chemistry with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry in on-the-ground and online education. Wide knowledge base including medicinal, organic, and forensic chemistry, food science and environmental science. In the science program teaches Organic Chemistry I/II and labs. In the WCore program teaches Science of Food and Drink. Other experiential learning and special topics courses taught include Natural Sciences of Hawaii, Introduction to Forensic Science and Organic Medicinal Chemistry. Professionally skilled in wide variety of spectroscopy and spectrometry analysis techniques. Westminster responsibilities include teaching chemistry courses and general education courses, mentoring research students, advising pre-professional health students (pre-med/dent/pharm/PA/PT/etc), directing the activities of Meldrum Science as Chair and coordinating STEM outreach activities.
Interests
Interests are as wide ranging as the knowledge base and include research in organic chemistry, green chemistry, spectroscopic analysis and aquatic ecology. Current research interest is focused on the aquatic ecology of Silver Lake at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. This lake, though within the National Forest, is in many respects an urban lake because of the numbers of visitors it receives. The goals of the current research at the lake is to determine the biological, chemical and physical features of the lake, (a limnology study) and to study the plants of the lake (the macrophytes). As part of this project, work will continue to establishing a QuEaChRS method to monitor water and snow for hydrocarbon contamination (specifically PAH contamination). Forest Ranger activities with the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest include working at the Sliver Lake visitor center providing trail information and area interpretation.
