In high school, Jace Vance (’24) took chemistry as a sophomore but wasn’t into it. "It was my least favorite of the sciences. I have taken wildlife biology, normal biology, chemistry, and physics. And chemistry was at the bottom," he recalls.
But once Jace got to Westminster, he took a chemistry class and learned to love it. “It clicked. And I truly appreciated it,” he says. “It finally made sense to me. And what was most gratifying was knowing that I had a challenge ahead of me.”
Jace is also a member of the men’s soccer team and isn’t afraid of a challenge. “Knowing that I would be able to overcome the hard times studying, and all the classes associated with the major, that brought a lot of gratification,” he says.
One of the biggest reasons he has found fulfillment at Westminster is the support of his mentors. “Because of the class sizes, I think it was amazing because anytime I needed help or resources, I could go straight to the professionals,” he says. “All my professors were arms open, willing to meet with me even at the most peculiar times under crazy circumstances.”
Now that he has graduated, Jace recognizes how embracing difficult things has made him a more confident person navigating the world. “Being a student here at Westminster has challenged me,” he says. “Classes have been hard. But I know I can do challenging things, so transitioning into the real world after this, going into medical school and everything to follow, I'm prepared for it.”
